Re: Holster recomendations?
You will like DeSantis. I have owned 2 DeSantis holsters and currently use one for my XD45 every day. The 2 loops make a LARGE difference in weight ditribution.

Re: Packin Heat
When I'm in the hills, i'm packing one of three things:
Springfield XD 45 Compact
Winchester Model 94 AE in .44 Magnum
Marlin 1895 in 45-70 Gov't
I also have a Taurus in .357 but I lack an appropriate holster to carry it in the hills. Otherwise, it would be one of my choices as well.

Re: Bullets
I'm with you, Don. Always been a Hornady fan! I am consistently reading all my hunting/gun mags and reviewing which ammunition groups well with each new firearm, and Hornady is on the top 95% of the time. I pack a Springfield XD Compact (.45 ACP) each and every day. And I LOVE it.

Re: what rifle do you hunt with?
I though I had replied to this thread....guess not. I shoot a Marlin 1895 (22" barrel) chambered for 45-70 Gov't. I shoot a 300 grain Nosler Partition that sits atop 55 grains of H4198 and travels around 2,250 fps. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v516/lpear00/Rifles/IM000849.jpg She's SOOOOOO nice.

Re: Backpacks
I currently use the White Buffalo Herd Bull pack for all my hunting. It's 3,300 cubic inches and EXTREMELY well built by a guy up in Wellsville, Utah. Brent is a great guy to deal with and they've got awesome customer service.
