Heading west soon
Coloradobuck, I think I read where you missed the draw but got you an otc tag that you wanted. Congrats, are you going to be hunting deer or elk. I think our plans are to set up a base camp on Sylvan lake until we decide on a place to pack into. Probably arrive on Sept 6th or 7th. Would love to have...

Re: Unit 44 Colorado
Hey there Coloradobuck. I got that muzzleloading elk tag for unit 44. Are you ready for a steak dinner. I was looking at Google earth at some potential spots. According to what I saw there is a road just southwest of Sylvan lake called Powerline road and off that there is one called Leeman Gulch roa...

Re: Unit 44 Colorado
Congradulations on your draw. I have never hunted unit 44 before but we have muzzle loader tags for that unit this year. We also have 8 preference points built up for deer and plan to hunt unit 44 as soon as we can get drawn. If I can remember, after our hunt I will let you know what we find because...

Re: Hey ColoradoBuck, need your help
Thanks BIGANTLERGETTER, I will keep that in mind. We are not looking for a trophy, just a good hunt and hopefully a legal bull. I do like to hear them bugle though, even if it is only at night. At least you know they were there and it gives you hope. Can't wait until June to see if we drew.

Re: Bullet choice for elk
Thanks I have been looking at the Powerbelts but have heard that they did not expand well on whitetails. Also looking at the great plains bullet but I think it is solid lead and was worried about penetration should i hit a major bone on the way in.

Bullet choice for elk
To all you elk hunters out there, what would be your choice of bullets for a muzzleloading elk hunt in Colorado where sabots are not legal. I understand that I will need to experiment with my gun to see which bullet groups the best but thought someone might have some experience on bullet performance...

Re: Hey ColoradoBuck, need your help
Thanks Buck, you would be more than welcome to come along on a scouting trip. We may have to tie a rock to your foot so we can stay up with you. Actuallly we would like to spike camp in 2 or 3 miles to do our hunting so a hidden bowl off the beaten path would suit us fine . If we get drawn, I will l...
