Check out the kirtley creek area. It is not far from salmon. We got in late last year and talked to teh owner of Wagons west motel and he pointed us into that area. We didn't have an elk tag for 30, so we just hunted muleys. First thing we saw was a 3x4 elk (figures). We also saw a few nice mule buc...

how to dress?????

How do I dress for a mid october elk hunt in Idaho?? I was thinking thermals, another lightweight shirt and then a jacket. I would also probably take another shirt along in case I get cold. I hear it gets in the 20's at night and could get up to 60-70 in the daytime. Whats up with that.

you're right, that is crazy. I picked that motel because it has a hot tub to rest my aching muscles. LOL How long of a ride was it for you to get from salmon to the hunting area? Are the roads decent out there?

cougar pt

Once again thank you!! I figure a mile in the bush will put me right near the area the IDFG told me about. Also, Acording to my aerial photos, It looks like a pretty good mixture of timber and open parks. Are you going to hunt in that area this year? I'll be out from 10/15 to 10/23.
