Re: my new gun 243.

The .243 will certainly kill an elk. Use a good bullet and shoot them right behind the shoulder in the heart and lungs region. I've killed elk with my 6mm Remington, which has almost the exact same ballistics as the .243. Good luck on your elk this year. My son hunted for the first time last year an...

Re: Had an old Remington kicking around

That will be a nice rifle. I love the .244/6mm Remington though and I would have had a new barrel in 6mm put on it. Still a nice rifle though.

Re: Jay's 2009 Utah Black Bear

What a beautiful animal, and he's big! Great job. I hope he eats good too. I've had the privelege of eating some bear meat off of 3 different animals, and it ALL was very good! We had a friend smoke a 20 pound roast and it melted in your mouth!!

Re: Favorite Bullet and Load

I shoot a 30-06 with IMR-4350 and 165 grain Nosler Accubonds for the larger stuff, and a 6mm Remington with 100 grain Nosler Partitions for deer and antelope. I am going to try the new Nosler E-Tip 90 grain bullet in my 6mm for fun though and see how it works. Both of these rifles are Ruger #1B's. I...

Re: Favorite Bullet and Load

I have used the Nosler Partitions and Accubonds for years. They are exceptional bullets and I have never had any failures with them at all! I do not care for the Nosler Ballistic tips either, but don't throw all Noslers into this group. They also have a new non-lead bullet out that is similar to Bar...

Re: Anyone elses moose, sheep, and goat draw as bad as mine?

Thanks for the words of encouragement guys. My son applied for Moose and Sheep, and it wll be his second year of hunting (13 yrs). Watch that little guy draw! He told me he was going to give me nothing but grief if he draws, and I'm quite sure he will. At least I would get to go, which is something,...

Re: 7mm vs. .270

I would get a .280 Remington. A little more versatile than the .270 (not much), and is every bit the equal of the 7mm Remington Magnum without the recoil. I shot one for years and all I ever used in it were 140 grain Nosler Partitions or Accubonds.

6mm Remington

I love this cartridge and am curious as to what other folks think about it? I've used one in either my Remington Model 600 Centennial or Ruger #1B for 36 years now. Largest animal I've killed with it was a spike bull-elk.

Anyone elses moose, sheep, and goat draw as bad as mine?

I have applied in Montana now for my 31st year in a row for Moose, Sheep, and Goat. Anyone out there as frustrated as I am about not being able to draw a tag? They should make those three special tags once in a lifetime draw for Montana like most states are. As it stands, I could have drawn a sheep ...

Re: Bullets For Antelope

I personally would not use that particular bullet. It will open up too fast and ruin a lot of meat. I shoot a 30-06 too, and I use nothing else in it but 165 grain Nosler Partitions or Nosler Accubonds. In my Ruger #1B with it's 26" barrel, my load chronographs at 2940 fps. If you want something a t...
