Lunker, where did you hunt on the west side? There are a few good areas I know of there but there are definitely a lot of people too

Re: Paunsaugunt Archery Elk
I drew a LE archery elk tag for the Paunsaugunt this year. I've read some stuff on here that's not too encouraging about the elk on that unit. Anyone have any positive experience hunting elk down there?? Thanks in advance for any advice! The elk numbers seem to be going down and the muleys are on t...

Re: New bow hunter..need a little help for Utah public elk areas
Eric If you're just looking to get a cow or a spike that is a very attainable goal here in UT. Strawberry is an excellent elk area with lots of elk. Get some topo maps or download the free PDF versions at USGS.gov. Locate some water holes on the topo maps and then go scout out a few water holes. Pic...

Re: How far out do you shoot?
Right now I have my adjustable pin dialed in up to 60 yards. I have not gone further yet because I can only get 60 yards in my back yard. When I am shooting regularly I am very confident at that range but things would have to be just perfect in a hunting situation for me to take that shot. I want to...

Re: It's getting close boys!
I'm pretty pumped but a bit nervous because I am trying a few new backpacking areas this year and I have not had any time to scout yet. Once I finish my house at the end of the month I think I am going to take some serious time off work and enjoy the mountains. Not setting expectations too high beca...

[quote="utbowhunter23"] I would like to know what some other tricks are that have people used to make sure they harvest their animal? quote] I have found the best thing to do when tracking a wounded animal is follow the direction that they are taking and find the nearest water. This is what has work...

Re: Wounded Ethics
I agree with all the posts so far. If I take a shot with my compound it is at 30 yards or less. That is my max comfort range. Can I hit at longer distances? Yes. Am I comfortable with the probability of a kill shot. NO! Respect your abilities and limitations and above all the animal. A lot can happ...

Re: Grim Reapers
I have used them for the last few years and have been really impressed with them. They fly extremely straight and do a lot of damage.

Re: Got my Elk tag this morning
I would say before long you will be: Depressed, obsessed, frustrated, stumped, thrilled, amazed, exhausted, mentally worn down, and on occasion sucessfull. Maybe its the challenge that makes so many of us masochists enjoy the pain that is elk hunting with a bow.
