Re: Carp fishing with my youngest son

I've fly fished for Carp since the early 50s and rate them as one ot our top fresh water targets. In the UK and many other places, including here and there, these days around the US the Carp has a huge following, making it most likely tops on the list of fish being chased for sport around the world....

Re: Round chambered while hunting?

Looking back over this thread, the folllowing came to mind. Here in Wyoming as in several states you can carry a firearm loaded in vehicles as well as out legally. There is usually great care taken to point out to inexperienced hunters to unload the chamber and remove the magazine before crossing fe...

Re: What would be your ideal time of year hunt?

I like the weather then for sure but it can be so hot it's hard to get game out without spoiling. Plus I have no interest in hunting velvet anything!! I do hunt with the bow, usually after meat deer or Antelope/Elk and that's a fine time to be out chasing them.

Re: elevation effects?

Using MOA, altitude causes a change at about a rate of 1 MOA per 5000 ft due to thinner air. Barometer and temp also plays a part but significantly less than the altitude will. In short the bullet flies faster at altitude making your 06 shoot more like a 300 H&H. For shots right at that 300 yd point...

Re: Aim Above or Below?

Aim low in both cases. If the slope isn't much at all in either an up or downhill direction don't worry about it. http://www.firearmssite.com/shoot_uphill.htm I put this up for it's drawing whcih shows this clearly.

What would be your ideal time of year hunt?

Here in Wyoming the hunt for Mule Deer is essentially over by the end of October. :>/ What's your favorite time of year for hunting Mulies? When do the seasons run in your area?

Re: Aim Above or Below?

I hope you didn't take away from what I wrote that one needs extra equipment, books, calculators, etc. (???) This is simple. Gravity is the issue! shoot the horizontal distance at targets above or below you which is normally going to be holding low. I have never met anyone who can accurately judge p...

Re: Round chambered while hunting?

Count me in as a no most of the time. Chambered rounds are for when game is likely close or when actually spotted. I used to carry chambered but over the years wisdom and planning replaced enthusiasm and spur of the moment happenings. :-$

Re: Favorit shooting sticks???

Bog Pod all the way but admit I haven't tried the Trigger Sticks. I did try others and found them far too flimsy in this great Wyoming wind! :thumb

Re: RIFLES+ME=CONFUSED.

Over the years, I played the Magnum game #-o and found as wisdom overcame the enthusiasm of youth, I prefer less recoil for several reasons including pain, noise, faster second shot and more. Recoil is easy to figure as it's basically bullet weight and the amount of powder versus the weight of the r...
