Re: WHATS YOUR 2015 HUNTING PLANS
Drew unit 2B rifle deer in NM for the second time in 3 years and also drew oryx and javalina tags. Not settling for a small buck in 2B again this year, I am going to scout hard and look for a big boy. Really excited for the oryx hunt too. Also finally starting to see the quail population rebound in ...

Re: Colorado OTC Bull Elk Hunt
Forgot to say before I posted the story that I haven't participated on the forum too much this year due to my lack of a deer tag, but I have learned a lot from people on this forum over the last couple of seasons and thought that I could at least provide an account of my elk hunt this year to make s...

Colorado OTC Bull Elk Hunt
To say the least, I was disappointed this spring when I didn't draw a single tag here in New Mexico. I was down to the last of my deer meat from the buck I took last fall, and more than anything I just didn't want to have to go a full year without big game hunting. The meat is important, and a troph...

Re: NM GMU 13- Datil, NM
I've hunted 13 but not over by datil. I hunted the Bear Mountains north of Magdalena and saw a few deer. Pretty low success rates in 13, but if I had to do it all over again I would have spent more time up high. I tried to hunt the lower sage and saw a lot of does, but I feel like the bucks were def...

Re: Are Deer Worms Normal?
I believe they are bot flies. Bot fly larvae feed in the skin of living mammals. Some tropical varieties even target humans. They don't hurt the meat, but are certainly gross when you see them!

Check out the New Mexico unit 2B forum on the list. A number of us posted a lot of info all throughout the September and October hunts that should help you out. Awesome unit. Good luck!

Awesome buck! Sounds like you did the right thing backing out and waiting until morning. It's amazing how far they can go if the adrenaline keeps pumping.

Re: Unit 2b New Mexico
Just wanted to echo Long Range's comment above and thank everyone on the forum for their comments and advice about the 2B hunt especially kaibab200; it definitely came in handy. My buddy and I headed out on Friday and decided to focus our efforts south of Highway 64 to see if we could avoid the crow...
