Double beard Michigan turkey

First day hunting this year I had a good shot on what I thought was a nice mature gobbler with an 8 inch beard. Turned out to be a double beard...a second 7 1/2 inch beard was hidden under the first. 19.5 lbs and tasted just dandy! Will try to post a pic http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r190/keyma...

I'm a Michigan whitetail, turkey, waterfowl, small game hunter, and fisherman. I had the good fortune to get my first Wyoming muley last year on my first hunt. Fished halibut and salmon in Alaska twice. Can't go west this year but hoping for muley and/or antelope tag in 2008.

I would recommend "Gun Dog" by Richard Wolters...excellent advice, quite detailed but easy to read. He also wrote "Water Dog" and "Family Dog". I have used his techniques with good success in the past...

I would take the neck shot...I am quite confident at 100 yards plus a miss is unlikely to wound him...and that is the buck of a lifetime...

Great pics! Can you imagine the effect a flock that size has on water quality in a small lake? I have heard that one goose is equal to 10 leaky septic tanks...makes me a little less anxious to go swimmin!

One suggestion on the stay command...step off with your RIGHT foot (assuming dog is on you left) as you give the stay command. When you want him to come with you (no stay command) step off with your LEFT foot. Dogs pick up on body language cues very quickly. Always keep the commands short, simple an...

My first deer was a doe. My dad held the flashlight over my shoulder and I aimed for the eyes...Michigan cornfield in late September about 10PM. I was 12...we never hunted for horns when I was growing up back in the late 50's early 60's. Always shot and ate 2 or 3 does out of our confields and left ...
