If it's in country where the deer don't migrate, I go and look for sheds in April. I start scouting right after July 4th and don't sop till after the season. As Roy said, you can usually tell a buck's potential by mid July.

Wyoming always has a whole bunch of areas with leftover licenses. You can wait until July and watch for the list, or if want, you can look over draw odds and pick a place now and start researching. There are lots of choices.

It is a tough deal. If you live in Washington, it is even more difficult. That's kinda funny. I shoot 71 grains of IMR 4350 and have used that load for 20 years, and I also shoot 180 grain partitions. I've tried several other loads and bullets but always come back to this one. Might not be the most modern or glitzy, but it has never failed me.
