Idaho Moose hunts closing

Post by highbasin » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:25 am

Another sad day for the Idaho Moose population. F&G is proposing to close three of the central Idaho hunts units-19a, 20a and 25. We own property and hunt in 19a. From 1997-2002 we would see 6-12 Moose while deer and elk hunting. After 2002 we would see fewer Moose each year. In 2006 we did not see a Moose. I'm not saying that it is totally the wolves, (actually it is the wolves). The wolf population has exploded in this area. There has not been a Moose harvested in the units since 2007, so F&G is doing the right thing. Its just so sad to see a great animal like the Moose finally rebound in the area just to have the wolves take them back out. It breaks my heart. I guess nothing is going to be done until the wolves get into all the western states big herds (Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico). I know everybody gets tired of everyone blaming everything on the wolves. In Idaho it's a legitimate agruement. Montana and Wyoming's elk herds are holding strong (that's what they say), while Idaho's elk herd has lost 24,000 head since 2007. Which is a 1/5 of the total population, some of which was from the nasty 2007 winter. On a better note Idaho is proposing to open Moose hunts in units 55,54 and 57 which border Utah.

It is very sad. Seems like a sign of times though. It is the anti-hunters in their finest hour. The wolves should never have been brought back. We (hunters) will suffer the most as more and more hunting opportunities wil be lost and yet we are footing the bill to insure the wolf prospers. Go figure.....

Yup! I used to see them every year while out on my annual whitetail hunts. I haven't seen a one of em in two years now. I sure wish someone would do something about the dang wolves.

Sometimes hunters just need to take matters into there own hands, shoot, shovel and shut up.
will solve the wolf problem.
