Anyone with moose experience? SUCCESS...WITH PICS!!!

Post by SHANE(WA) » Fri Aug 07, 2009 3:48 am

I drew a WA moose tag, just looking for some pointers on late season tactics on hunting post rut moose, not much info on this topic anywhere. My season runs till Nov 30th. Thanks

Man Shane, I am SO envious of you! I've been watching your pre-season "progress" on the other site and honestly cannot wait until the season starts so that I can "watch" how you do!

Good luck my friend! There are a number of members here who have taken moose before and hopefully they can help you out!

Most moose hole up in food sources post rut. They can be challenging to hunt that time of year, or very easy, just depends on the terrain you find them in. Do your research. Maybe call your government wildife agency and see if they have any forage data for the state moose population for the post rut period. Then go find areas of these species and try focusing there. Willows are always popular. Try 3 year and up old clearcuts if you can find em, usually good willow in there. Hunt ALL day long. Start at first light, go until dark. Sit and spot, try not too get too far back in the bush as they are really dang heavy if you are by yourself. Recruit strong back and weak minds to help you pack er out if you have to. lol If i can think of any thing else i'll post er up for ya.

and when does your season start? That could help determine tactics too.

CONGRATS Shane on a BEAUTIFUL bull! Hopefully you will find the time to post it here for the others to see.

For those wondering...Shane bagged a bull that should rank pretty dang high in the State of WA (Archery). It is a BEAST!

Well guys and gals, Shane connected on a BEAUTIFUL Washington bull moose and he gave me permission this evening to post the pics up for you all. Give the guy some time cause as you can imagine he's pretty busy right now but he said he'd try to stop by and tell you all the story when he gets a chance.

This is an OIL tag in Washington state (Once-in-a-Lifetime) and he made the most of his opportunity! I am SO JEALOUS! CONGRATS Shane!!!
