unit pick for mule deer,colorado

Post by lennyg » Tue Mar 26, 2013 12:47 pm

currently I have 10 mule deer points, non resident, would like some advise on what would be the best unit to put in for this years hunt, want to burn points this year so I can start putting in with my grandsons as a group. do not plan on hiring a guide, have plenty of time to scout area before hunt. any info would be helpful , need to have paper work in by april 2. thanks lenny, Colorado, unit

Where are you from?
You could look into a unit 21 2nd season. I think it takes about 10 points for that one.
There's always next year

I'd look at the Gunnison Basin. Great genetics and the deer took a big hit in the winter of 2007-08, but there are still some big deer there. and it is magnificnet country.

Good hunting and glad to hear you are gearing up with the grandsons.

What about for 5 points? im trying to burn it up too but am starting to consider waiting til i have 6.. theres some early season rifle hunts above timberline but im not sure if it would be better to wait for some of those that take 6 pts to draw.. any advice will be greatly appreciated

I know guys that really like 67/68 both are in the Gunnison Basin. I think they drew their tags with somewhere between 8-10. One was muzzleloader and the other was 3rd or 4th rifle. I've also heard that 21 is a good unit.

Do you have a preference for which season you would like to hunt?
