Lucky Hat- It really is!

Post by ridgetop » Thu Oct 22, 2015 8:36 pm

Sorry, I don't have much time right now for details. I've got to pack for a trip to the Vernon Unit tonight to help a
friends son get his buck in the morning.
I went out this morning to help my cousins wife fill her general tag.
We were able to find a 28" 5x5. Sweet looking buck.
Here's a few numbers concerning my buck.
He's a 9x8 with a 31" mainframe and 37" outside spread and will score somewhere around 200" I'm guessing.
I'm way excited with the way this season has turned around.
The archery and muzzy hunts were unproductive, although we had a lot of close calls with some really nice bucks but just could make things work out.
More info. to come.

Actually, I forgot about my cousins son who turned 12 in the middle of the muzzy hunt, killed a 20" 4x4 two days after he turned 12.

Well the streak ended on the Vernon.
Holy cow, give me a general season tag any day.
We hit the winter range but the deer haven't migrated yet.
We only saw one small 18"-20" wide 4 point. Maybe in the 120-130" range.
He decided to go after it a few hours later but we couldn't locate it.
Talk about a wake up call.

All joking aside about the lucky hat.
I have been truly blessed to have such good hunting friends and family.
And blessed to be apart of helping three of them kill their biggest bucks to date this week. :thumb
And also help pack them out. :-k
I may loose my toenail on my left foot and have a stress fracture on my right foot and wear a brace on my right knee but this fat guy can still get it done. :))
I ended up going back out to the Vernon unit and we hit the summer range this time.
It appeared that some hunters must have hit this area hard during the week and pushed most of the bucks out of the area.
I was able to locate one cagey, tall and heavy old buck that took a 2 mile, three hour stalk, which put us 80 yards above the bedded buck. In which my friend was able to kill it in its bed.
What a way to end the week. :thumb
BTW Brett, the hat has an incredibly comfortable fit.
Every Muley hunter should have one.
Thanks
