Idaho Unit 40

Post by Hunt'nRN » Fri Aug 07, 2009 9:34 am

I am just getting back into hunting after getting finished with college and starting a family. I was lucky enough to draw a late muley tag and an antelope tag in unit 40 and am looking for any advice and help from anyone who knows this unit. Thanks in advance for all the help, I really appreciate it.

When does the antelope season open? Is the mule deer tag also for unit 40?

I would start by looking for the antelope in the lower level areas around the Cow Creek Drainage. Two years ago I saw a heard (in November) that was over 600 goats.
Making the swtich to the strick and string! Watch out!

Thanks again for the help.

The Deer Hunt should be in Rut or close to it. So if you can find does you will find the bucks somewhere close by. i would scout Juniper Mountain

Thanks again for the tip, it looks to me like Juniper mountain is in unit 42 though and my hunt is in unit 40 if I am not mistaken. Thanks for the tips though.

I am from Idaho and have drawn the unit 40 hunt a few years ago. Juniper Mountain is not in your unit and you will find bigger bucks else where any way. By the 14th or 15th of NOvember the bucks will be chasing does hard. If I give you too much info my Idaho buddies will be pissed but check out the South Mountain area. You can drive a 4 wheeler all the way to the lookout then glass the draws
