FRESH lion killed buck

Post by Tree Killer » Thu Oct 29, 2009 4:19 pm

Back in September I found this Blacktail buck, he had about a 5# hunk of meat chewed out of his right ham. At first I thought it had been killed and lost by a bowhunter, but no arrow wound was found. I snooped around and found where a big mountain lion had killed the buck and dragged it down the hill and across a road.

Image

I came back at daylight with a friend and the buck had been moved down the hill about 30 ft and close to half the buck had been eaten and debris had been raked over the carcass.

Image

There were 4 piles of lion crap around the kill. I'm pretty sure the cat was laid up within 100 yds of the kill and listening to us talk.

Image

The next day we came back after a morning elk hunt and the carcass had been moved a couple hundred feet. All that was left was part of the skull, the hide, lower legs, and some of the spine and pelvis. In 48 hrs the majority of that deer had been consumed!

Thats amazing, too bad you didn't get a shot at the Kitty. Tree Killer, did you hunt near Conconully last week? We were watching the Seahawks game and grabbing lunch at the Tamarack and and I noticed a guy with Surveyors tape tied around his hat with "Tree Killer" written on it.
Just remember they call it hunting not finding. It's all about the stories.

No, that wasn't me. We use that stuff when a tree gets hung up in thinning. It's actually "Killer Tree" and some has a skull and cross bones on it. The Safety Man will fine you if you don't flag out a hung up tree with bright ribbon.

I actually DO have a tag, but I was in bugling bull mode that week. A friend of mine gets a lion almost every winter by finding a fresh kill and sitting on it at first light or just before dark. I wish had would've had one of my trailcams handy to put on it.
