October Velvet Bulls??

Post by JimmyB » Tue Oct 16, 2012 2:08 am

Could some bulls really be in velvet still? The other night I was driving back up the canyon to my camp and 4-5 elk ran across right in front of me and I came a few feet from nailing this very very nice looking bull and I could have sworn he was in velvet still. Was I maybe high? Or are some bulls still in velvet this late in the year?

Seems a little late for velvet, but you never know!

ive seen bucks that had gotten their nuts chopped off stay in velvet year round, usually they grow bigger antlers and more freakish antlers and never rub from what ive seen, so maybe he jus had no nuts
Hunt til there is nothing to hunt, then go farther and hunt harder the big one will turn up
