Odd hooves

Post by MNbogboy » Sun Jan 04, 2009 6:08 pm

We found these hooves kind of odd...The first one was shot on the opener of the 2008 MN season by my oldest son's brother in law, Craig.....Only one front hoof was white.....

Your average tree hugger (???) would say that it was probably an adaptation to help him show less tracks in the snow, hence helping the buck outwit the rising populations of wolves.... #-o

We think it was just white... :thumb

The second photo is of a big buck my oldest son Jim shot last year in WI.....We see this in most heavy bodied older deer but this one was unusually pronounced....This buck probably was very close to 300 lbs live weight....If you weighed 300 lbs and were chased around by wolves all year long your toes would probably be splayed out too.... :-$ .....

Third photo is a 2008 MN buck my son John took a nice 6x7 typical....The timberwolves did not get one.... :)

P.S. Please don't share any of this information with the wolf-lovers...

The white one is unsual for sure, the second one not so much...just really big buck. :)

Not that I'm an expert and the last one is a nice buck. :thumb

I alerted the wolf lovers. :))

I shot a big buck a few years back I nick named Curly because one of his front hooves, just one side, curled waaaaay out. He was also in the 300lb class. Wish I had gotten a picture of it now.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.
