Superformance 140 grain SST 7mm-08

Trying Hornady's load this year for Mulies with the 139 gr. SST.

Not sure what to think of the load yet.

My Remmy LSS heated up real fast as the weather was 60+ for sight in. Barrel was wandering a bit when I got the Hornadys. I used Core Lokts to get me close as my rifle seems to shoot one holers with the Core Lokt 140's. Of all the ammo it likes Core Lokts.. bah

The Superformance act like they are little hotter then Federal Premium/Remington loads (slightly more recoil) and it was noted that the round got out to the 200 yd gong extremly fast. Faster then a .223 with 55 grainers. I did look at the primers and they show no signs of excessive pressure. Extraction was normal and also showed no case swelling.

Not having a Chrono I can't say if their advertised velocity is what it is. However it sure seems like it. I'm going back this week for cold barrel final adjustments so I'll post how they group.

I'm hoping to get a good group out the 22" barrel at just over 2900pfs.

I'm assuming you've already tried the core lokts on mulies before? I would stick with what already worrks, but it's fun to try out others. I've been playing the ammo game too, and I tried out a box of hornady 165 sst in .308. I wasn't able to get a very consistent group (at least nothing too spectacular compared to the 150's I had been shooting a day or two prior). I just don't think my rifle really liked them. I do however, hand load the 117 sst in my .25-06 and they have shot wonderfully. I'm thinking of trying them out this fall. I hope they work out for ya!

I'm bailing on the superformance.

I can NOT get a group out this ammo to save my life. All over the board, 3"+ t 200 yards.

My rifle just does not like them period. :(

I would recomend trying a nosler partition or a Barnes Triple shock I can usually get these 2 bullets to shoot in any rifle, but I reload.

What issues have you had with the core-lokt bullets? I would think that they would perform perfectly on deer sized game at 7-08 velocities. I have historically had great luck with corelokt bullets even up to 7mm Rem velocities. If they shot best in my rifle, I would stick with them. ----------SS

In my very limited experience of shooting the Hornady's out of a short barrel is that you CANNOT get a good group. I tried them in my dad's Rem 721 with a 20" barrel and the BEST I could do was about a 3" group at 100 yards! Went back to the good ol' Rem Core Lokt's and got it down to a very manageable ~1" groups.

The longer the barrel, the better they work.

I think the barrel length probably does matters quite a bit actually.... my 25-06 has a 24 inch barrel and seems to shoot any bullet great (the 117 sst being one of them). When I tried the 165 grain superformance in my 20" sps .308, they stunk BIG time. I ran some 165 barnes tsx the next time and got awesome groups. Stick with the core lokts!

My brother in law just bought some of this in .308 in 150 sst's superformance for his Rock River A4 w 26" barrel. I was very pleased with the results it got out of it getting right at m.o.a. accuracy.

Now the sst bullet on the other hand has too light a jacket for my preference. Not saying it won't kill deer, I just prefer heavier jackets or alloys with controlled expansion. It is a point many will argue one side or the other with a lot of passion at times but my experience has led me to something that retains more of it weight.
