I like both cartridges, but have reservations about both. Both of these cartridges have huge recoil, and for my own skill level must have some kind of recoil management for precision shooting. This holds especially true for the Ultra Mag. I would not recommend this cartridge in a hunting weight rifle without a muzzle break. I shoot a Win Mag without a break, but experience fatigue very quickly during practice sessions. As far as killing ability, it is a moot point as either of these bad boys will handily kill anything that you can hit in the right spot bar none. For the less involved casual shooter/hunter, I would recommend the Win Mag due to it's mainstream nature and shootability. For someone who is a serious long range operator, I would lean toward the Ultra Mag as it holds a respectable performance edge and tends to be very accurate when specific loads are developed. My ultra mag shoots 180grn Nosler etip bullets at 3250 FPS and will consistently hold MOA groups out to 800 yards. My 300 Win Mag shoots 180 Barnes TTSX bullets at 3050 FPS and shoots very well at moderate ranges out to 500 yds.------------SS
