Tactical rifles

Post by maintguy47 » Thu Jan 02, 2014 7:39 pm

Wife's gonna get me a at type rifle for valinetines day. This will be part of my bug out equipment. Was thinking 308 cal. It would be able to take everything from armadillos to moose.l would really like to see every bodies opinion on this. My concerns are knock down power, range, and availability of amo. If you could only carry one size round in that cal. Which would it be?

Reminginton R-25 in Winchester 243. Not as much " knock down power" but it might just be one on the funner guns in my collection. 3 inch groups at 600 yds I haven't shot much further then that with it.
Is someone with 10 million dollars any happier than someone with 9 million?

I have very little experience with these rifles in anything but .223 but I think one in .308 would work well for what you have mentioned, not to mention .308 ammo is relatively easy to get a hold of.

By all means go with the .308. As for manufacturer I can tell you more to stay away from than to go with. There are so many AR's on the market now that you really need to do your research to ensure you are getting a quality rifle. And remember, cheap in price normally means cheap in quality.

My best suggestion, get the best rifle you can afford. You did mention as a bug out rifle. When the SHTF you want something you can count on, not something you save a few dollars on.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.

If I may ask what price range are you in? Both the LWRC REPR and the Scar 17s are good .308 rifles for what you are looking at.
Although the availability of the ammo decreases have you considered either 6.8 SPC or .300 Blackout?

Thinking up to 2500 for the rifle. 3500 for optics. Would like to be able to pop up iron sites for close range up to about 100 yrds. Shot a Browning the other day liked it . Don't want to buy anything I can't shoot first. want to get the feel first. Most places don't have a place to do that or look at me like I'm fanatical or something. Maybe I'm to serious about this purchase. I know the limitations of the few guns I have and my limitations with those guns. Kinda like girl friends. Wonder if my old 30 ought will get jelouse. Thanks for the input guys. Let ya know what I end up with.
