In high school I did a science project on Freak antlers. Cactus style antlers are the result of injuries to the testicles. What often happens is the animal may not shed the antlers therefore they just literally keep growing on top of the old. What we think is a wicked buck or bull, is simply comparable to a steer. This is not the case with all animals but it does happen to the majority of animals who sport cactus traits.
