There are a few up on top I guess, haven't seen them just know guys that have. I know there are a few between Mountain Meadows and Grass Valley, and you can also find them on the Gumhill occasionally.

If you are headed north on hwy 18 it's on your right hand side as you drop down cottonwood towards Enterprise.

I hope you haven't wasted your time looking for elk on Gum Hill. I live in Enterprise and asked around tonight and nobody has ever heard of elk on that mountain. I hunted deer there on the muzzleloader and know several others that did and only saw a few deer, let alone an elk. Don't get me wrong there might have been at one time but I have never heard that. There's no water on top unless you drop down towards town or cross highway 18 and driving that road everyday I sure hope there's not an elk in the road. From what I understand there was a nice bull taken by gray's ranch on the archery hunt. I'm going to try and get more information but I've heard it might score 380+. Try between there and Atchinson mountain. It's a lot of country but there in there somewhere. Also, west of Enteprise along the nevada border there is a small herd but you will be competing with a lot of other hunters and very few elk. Of course, that's how the entire unit is. Good Luck.

Elko,
That's why I said occasionally, and I have seen them cross the highway from the Gumhill to Communication. I have also spotlighted and seen them in Hafens fields right there southeast of the Gumhill. But the majority of the elk on that unit are between mtn meadows and grass valley. I'm not trying to lead anyone a stray.

thanks again for your help guys! I have hunted greys ranch for the past 3 years and havent even seen signs of elk being in the area... I was out west of enterprise on opening morning, a few hunters but no elk... I'm going out again this weekend so maybe I'll try greys again or head over towards pinto??
