Kinetic energy for elk?
Hey Guys,
I'm new to western archery hunting, have a question for you experienced arrow flingers in the group. I am shooting a Bear Carnage LH 70# with a 384 grain arrow at 266 f.p.s. according to a kinetic energy calculator it shows I am sitting at a little over 60# of KE. I am shooting a 1" 3 blade Rocket Ultimate Steel broadhead. My question is, is this enough? I know the traditional crew pulls it off with a lot less but I would appreciate some boots on the ground experience telling me what they think and what they are shooting. Thanks JB.

I would say that the KE is enough, but i would not use that small of a broadhead, you should at least use 1 1/2 inch if you are hunting elk. Back to the point, yes the KE is enough and should go right through the elk if I'm correct, i shoot 52 lbs of KE and it goes about all the way through. But then again i shoot a Mathews
2010 Strother SR-71 390 grain arrow @ ~60# >-------> 298 FPS with 74.6 KE. Slick Trick Army.

Shot placement is most critical. The better KE, momentem, and cuttuing diamenter, the more forgiving shot placement is. But for the most part it's up to you.
You can stand me up at the gates of Elko and I won't back down!

just curious, how are you only at 266 fps with a carnage rated at what like 345? and your arrow isnt that heavy...what's your draw length 26?
just curious for a carnage at 70lbs and like a 380 grain arrow it just seems low to me
