300 mag vs 300 wsm

Okay guys. Which one and why? It would be for deer and elk.

Well ballistics are so close on them it doesn't really matter in that sense. I'd go with the 300 WSM for it's lighter recoil.

The ballistics are really close. I shoot a 300 WSM and love it to dead. It has a little more drop than the mag though. I am a small guy so the yes recoil the better I shoot the gun. I would buy another one in a heart beat.

It is splitting hairs ballistically. I own both but use my 300WSM all the time. Shoots well, reloads easy and just very comfortable with the rifle.

Both are great choices and as has been stated are ballistically twins. I would give the nod to the short mag simply on the premise of superior case design. The WSM has less taper, a sharper shoulder, and a longer neck making it a "better" case in my opinion. As far as kick goes, they both kick too hard for me.--------SS
