Cabelas bulk ammunition??

Post by Joshs68 » Sun Jan 27, 2008 12:26 pm

has anyone ever used the Cabelas brand ammo? They have it in .30/06, 7mm and 300 win mag. I know its not premium stuff but the price isnt bad and are made in the U.S.A. Who do you think loads them? I would not be surprised if it is Hornady because they are both in the same neighborhood.

I have never tried it but it could be Hornady or Black Hills or several different companies loaded to cabelas specs. You eleminate packaging by whole would save $$$. I would not think it would be a premium ammo but also bet it would be decent stuff. If you look at the customer ratings on their website most are averaging over 4.5 out of 5.

I would think it would be good for practice, varmints and plinking. Been thinking of getting some bulk .45 ACP to break in my new toy from them. Believe I'll stay with the rounds I've been using for hunting, though. No sense in taking a chance with an unknown when I know the rounds I've been using do the job.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.

Its HSM ammo. Good stuff at 100.00 or so including plastic ammo can. I use it in 30-06,7mm Rem Mag, and 270 Win. Good stuff actually.

Thanks!
I called Hunting Shack today and they verified that they do indeed load Cabelas bulk ammo.
They use a PMC soft point boat tail bullet and load per Hogden loading specs. (maybe some misspelling there and I dont handload so the verbage may be off here)
he 30.06 165gr muzzle @ 2790/2853 with a ballistics coef of .477
The 30.06 180grain muzzle # are 2690/2893 with a ballistics coef. of .540
The 7MM 162grain muzzle # are 2800/2821 with a ballistics coef. of .556
The 300 win mag muzzle @ 2950/3479 ant the ballistics coef is .540

I dont know how to figure out anything from the ballistics coeficient but maybe someone here does.
What do you guys think of this ammo now? I am looking into this further because I like the price and I like items in bulk. I do not want to chance a once a year tag on cheap ammo but I think sometimes the high price stuff is the cheap stuff in an expensive box.

...actually I may just quit reloading, give my stuff away, and buy a can of Cabela's/HSM every month or so.
