Very cool!

As for how it will effect the elk and deer populations....I guess it will be a wait and see type of thing although from what little I know I don't think they will have a major impact. Of course, if the population gets to an unmanageable number then they could indeed start to have a negative impact.

Of course, if the population gets that big you could very well see some sort of hunting quota put on the herd, opening up more opportunity for folks that would love to have the opportunity to harvest one of those beasts!

I think it is pretty cool to reintroduce the bison to the Book cliffs.

I dont see any of the wolf lovers fighting to restore bison, elk and moose to natural habitat like the midwest and back east.

Once the bison are restored they will make sure they natural predators (wolves) that used to keep them in check are moved in to keep the herd in check, that is if they havnt move down out of Idaho by then on their own.Read the wolf groups long term plan "to restore them to their original habitats",thats just about everywhere. #-o

I think it's a good idea to move bison back out there. As far as the wolves go we saw one a few years ago during the Elk hunt in northeastern Utah. Mixed emotions about seeing him there, but it's pretty much inevitable that they would move down this way.

The goal is to have around 500 head on the Books. The transplant was supposed to start last spring but ONE rancher tried to stop. A ton of money has been spent tying up grazing permits, getting agreements w/the Utes, studies on the effects this will/could have on other species. SFW has been leading this effort that has been in the works for several years. The bison will be transplanted from both the Utes and from the Henry mountain herd. I am glad to see the re-introduction has started. Thanks to all those who have put in countless hours INCREASING hunting opportunity for us. The Henry herd population objective is around 300, so the Books herd will end up offering more bison tags than the Henries does/will.
