.50 cal smoke pole bullet

have been hearing so much about power belts coming apart and that maxi hunters are good for deer . What are suggestions for a .50 cal bullet for elk and powder loads (loose hunt in Co)
ive got 6 mo to figure it out

what do you mean by "coming apart"? i have never had a problem with the powerbelts and thats what everyone i hunt with uses now... We had a shooting competition a few years back and my dad beat us all shooting 245 gr. powerbelt aero tips. i was shooting 295's and they dropped way to fast. the old ball and patch didnt even hit the base of the hill we were aiming for. One guy was shooting sabots and did ok maybe his sight might have just been off but he had to clean his gun after every shot to stay consitent. Another guy was using "buffalo balls"? they didnt do very good but they sure seemed to hit hard!!!

Check out the Thor Bullets. I am going to try them out this year. I have heard great about them.

Better check the CO regs on the belted and sabboted bullets. I've used the power belts since they came out where legal and have had no problems at all. Good luck on your hunt.

I heard thor bullets are manufactured by Barnes for Thor. The bullets look real similar to Barnes bullets so they should perform real well. They make a "colorado bullet" that is supose to comply with Colorado muzzleloading standards.

Colorado has done away with the twice diameter to length regulation this year. I think the thors will be a great bullet.

Hornady FPBs are good bullets as well. I have taken two elk with the 350 gr bullet over the last two years. They are a step up from powerbelts since they are a lead alloy instead of pure lead. They also make a 300 gr.

That said, I will probably be using the 300 gr Thor next fall in Colorado for elk since they removed the length restriction. As stated, basically a barnes bullet, pure copper, and should hold together well.
