First Muzzleloader Bull

Post by MzldMT » Thu Oct 25, 2007 9:56 am

Well I decided to try this muzzleloader hunting thing this year and I love it. I took my T/C omega out for Montana's opener on sunday and at 9:48 the smoke rolled through the timber. Dad and I walked up on a bedded bull and he laid long enough to size him up and get a primer on the gun. I laid down with my pack as a rest and just like he knew what he was doing he stood up and turned broadside. He was 148 yards out and that bead on the front sight covered a lot of elk. I tried to aim a little high and let the smoke blow. I didn't think I hit him cause when the smoke cleared he was walking through the timber like nothing happened. I asked dad what he thought and just then the bull fell over. We had a ball the rest of the day looking for an elk for dad. We passed a young one up and then loaded mine on the horses and got out of there.

Nice Bull, sounds like a lot of fun to me. Where did you end up hitting the bull?

Southwind,
Fortunately I got some luck on my side and hit the bull right on the shoulder crease and just at center of his body. The bullet went through the far shoulder and was laying against the hide. Not quite the expansion I was looking for, but those bullets are already big to begin with. It did the job, and I am a happy man.
