First Muzzleloader Kill and bull

Post by UtahRob » Thu Nov 01, 2007 10:33 pm

Jared Black a good friend of ours was able to get his first muzzleloader kill and his first bull elk this morning , We spotted a herd of 25 Elk , Jared and Cody stalked to within 90 yard . Jared put a 300 grain Xtp behind the shoulder of the 2 x 1 bull . :thumb

One shot is all I Got.
Better make it count, or reload fast.

Made it out this evening for a little scouting , and saw around 30 elk , no spike bulls , but we are off all next week so i hope we can find another spike or two . :thumb I will let my son Cody get the first chance at a bull again this year and then if we see another spike , IT WILL BE MINE !! :thumb

Also , what they thought was around 90 yards shot was actually 142 yards , checked with range finder !! :-k Sure is hard to tell !!!

After Jared shot his bull the herd went up and over the mountain and has not returned . Usually the herd will return after a few days , but not this time. Also all the good weather is not helping ether. Last year we had very cold weather and a good amount of snow . Most of the Elk we are seeing are on top and a lot further than i will pack out. Its been cold at night and tee shirt weather during the day . Every one hunting in our area , are seeing way less Elk this year . But it still great to be out !! :thumb

Anyone having any luck !!!
