5 sheds and a grouse

Post by sactribe » Sun Sep 02, 2012 11:39 pm

I went out grouse hunting yesterday and wound up finding 5 elk sheds on the way. One spike, one 4 point, 2 large 5 points and a nice 6 point. Most of them were from this year and one was really chewed up. I shot my first grouse, killing it with the first shot about 50 feet up in a tree where it fell forward and died right there on the branch. I tried knocking it down with rocks but finally had to shoot it out of the tree. Fortunately I got it down and there was still plenty of good meat on it. I fried it up for the family tonight and it was very tasty. I think I need to go get some more of those. The last photo is my new Horn Hunter pack getting some field testing. So far I am happy with it, but that was a heavy load!

It's always nice to find some bone when your not out looking for them in the first place, makes the trip even better.
