What to plant?

Post by #1DEER 1-I » Wed May 16, 2012 5:49 pm

I would like to plant something for deer on my property. A plant that would be helpful to them both during the year and during winter if possible. I have thought about forage kochia, but can't find anywhere online to really buy it. What recommendations do you have, it would also need to be a plant that would not need a lot of water to grow well.

I know a rancher that pulls mule deer in by planting clovers & alfalfa for nutrition year round. Last year he added millet and winter wheat, This combination seems to work well. I'd go with just the millet and winter wheat as I don't believe they require as much water.
