Who knows Abajo,SanJaun area

Post by braddlong » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:55 pm

Me and my wife and 2 kids drew out for this area, We are from northern Utah and have never hunted this area. Looking for any suggestions on best hunting, camping all around area to 4 wheel, and have fun. We are staying for at least a week. First time hunting for my wife and one boy. We are not afraid to hike if needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is going to be my first time hunting it also. I've done a little research and some checking out the area on google maps. Depending on what you here on this forum and some other forums, it's either the zone holds some decent bucks or there's mostly forked horns that are taken in the area. My outlook is if you hunt hard and diligently, it will pay off.

It's really steep and there aren't many 4wheeler trails. Which hunt did you draw? Rifle, Archery, Muzzleloader?

We drew out for rifle, We went down over labor day and seen over one hundred deer off the roads in little over 2 hours. Sure they will be gone as soon as hunt starts..
