I usually clean a new barrel until spotless. I will fire a 3 shot group and then clean it profusely. I will repeat this process a dozen or so times. Be careful to let the barrel cool between shots because I believe heat and throat erosion to be more of an accuracy theif than lack of break in period....

With price being the deciding factor in your decision per your opening post, I would suggest the 162 Hornandy as a decent priced cup and core bullet. Ruger 77 for me, but I have had success with 110's, 700's, A-bolts, 70's, and MK V's. Never owned the Tikka, but my friend loves his.
