WHATS YOUR 2015 HUNTING PLANS

Post by shorty » Sun Dec 28, 2014 5:36 pm

Wondering who has any exciting hunts they are starting to plan out allready. I myself am dedicated hunter and am looking forward to spending some great hunting time with my dad even if the deer hunting sucks it's the memories I enjoy the most.

Well, I'm planning to go out of state (I live in California). I hope to go to either Wyoming, Colorado, or Utah, but my buddy and I haven't decided where to apply yet. We would like to go to Utah because it is a much shorter drive, but we have no info on it. We heard it gets really crowded. Do you know anything about hunting in Utah? I sure would appreciate some info on it. I'm with you on just spending some great time hunting with my buddy and his daughter. I hope to get a deer, but a good trip is what I really want. I got my Cabela's Alaknak tent in the mail today and a wood stove is on order. I'm ready for some deer hunting in the snow!

I am dedicated hunter here in Utah the 2014 season was a very tuff hunt for a mature buck. There's no doubt you could get a buck but as far as decent bucks it is some very tuff hunting.

I'm just hoping to draw a Utah tag this year. :) Probably Rifle hunt and hope for the best in the crazy crowded pumpkin patch. :)

I'll put in for everything available in CO and should draw a deer tag in our favorite unit. Probably get an OTC tag for a bull elk as I don't see drawing an elk tag this year. May pay a trespass fee to hunt antelope on the eastern slope. And I'll be chasing squirrels and rabbits in between along with upland birds.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.

I use to hunt 5 different units, mostly Pine Valley or Panguitch now. Zions is a good choice also.

I have seen some quality animals in Panguitch, although I have also been there opening weekend and man it is crowded, but where isn't? hah My family has a couple cabins in the Panguitch unit, so that area and I have some history, caught my first fish in mammoth creek! ha And I am headed up for a little ice fishing on Panguitch lake this weekend. I have seen some nice elk come out of that unit too. Are Pine Valley and Zion similar to Panguitch in vegetation/terrain?

You can thank our local DWR for the crowds in some of the past RAC meeting all they can brag about is that buck to doe rates are doing excellent hurry and issue more tags

Maybe if buck to doe rates were up then where the helll are the mature bucks at during the rutt I have not seen quality bucks during the rut for 15-20 years

Maybe your not looking in the right areas. :-k

I'm just hoping I can hunt the same areas as I did last year.
I'll just buy points on the OIL and LE tags.
There's always next year
