Best Deer Ever!

Post by huntingal » Tue Nov 22, 2016 7:31 pm

This year I was lucky enough to hold onto one of our 3rd season landowner vouchers to use myself. These PLO tags can be wonderful or a curse. On the right day, at the right time, you have to hope the deer are liking your ground better than your neighbors. lol
I was also lucky to have filled my freezer with a young cow elk earlier, so for the first time in a long time I was able to "horn hunt" a little.
I wasn't able to hunt the first weekend, or even the first 7 days, but I wasn't too worried. I had a few bucks located prior to the season start.
Friday I checked my "honey holes"-no bucks. That super moon must have had them in super hiding. (???) I saw a couple smaller bucks that day, but nothing special.
Saturday morning, driving to check the "honey hole", this guy was with his girls. I didn't think twice. Before the sun was even up I had my personal best deer on the ground.

He's not super wide, but is super tall.

Beauty of a buck! Congrats on a successful elk and deer hunts. 3rd season was really tough with no weather for sure.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.

Congratulations!! Awesome deer! I know one thing. I didn't see a lot of deer come out of that area this year, but the ones I saw were NICE! Great job!
