So heres the situation, i shoot a Remington SPS 700 in .300 Win Mag, and im looking into ways to reduce recoil. I love the gun but some days im scared of the thing (???)

So if anyone could please tell me a good way to reduce the recoil, or somebody i could take it to who does a fine job on muzzle breaks and that jazz would be a big help. Thanks guys :thumb

Muzzle brake is the best bang for the buck. Just make sure you find a good gunsmith to do the job.

I have the same gun, i put the ( limb saver ) recoil pad on mine, made by SVL, it was about $30.00, it cut the recoil in 1/2, it is very comfortable to shoot now. i bought mine at Cabela's, but most gun shops stock them too.

I too would recommend trying the Sims pad first.

Muzzle brakes IMO are a last resort and every one I've been around (which is only a couple) has been obnoxiously if not dangerously loud even for the shooter and I have also seen them blow dust when shot from the prone position that is reminiscent of shooting a blackpowder gun.

I'd borrow a recoil pad from someone and see if it is enough to do the job for you. If you it is not I'd go with the brake from the link I PM'd you.
The Brake I had installed doesn't have holes on the bottom so it doesn't kick up any more doest than an unbraked rifle. Without holes on the bottom it also helps with muzzle jump at the shot so you regain sight picture quicker as well.
It does make your rifle louder but thats what ear plugs are for.

You will be sorry you did, most people i know, hate them, and wish they didn't do it, muzzle breaks, are the last resort. but it is your gun, i hope it works for you.

I guess I didn't realize most people hate them and wish they had never had a muzzle brake installed. See, I have two of them and my brother also has a couple. We like them, much better than adding a recoil pad.

Guess we aren't most people.

I think he will be happy with the brake :thumb , they are fine, I was just pointing out a couple of flaws that I have noticed with the ones I have been around, and encouraging another option to try first.

The few people I know that have them like them.

+1 on the earplugs. (@)

Good luck! 4c Hope you find what works for you! xcrossx

As you can see I am kinda slow so I just found the extra smilies and thought I would experiment. :tz
