2010 Whitetail success!!

Post by AGCHAWK » Sun Nov 21, 2010 1:37 pm

Well guys and gals, I finally filled my Idaho Whitetail tag this morning. Not much of a story.
After having difficulty throughout the season trying to find a buck that would stand around long enough for me to get a shot off I decided to head out this morning to see if my luck would change.

My brother and I arrived at our hunting destination at sunrise and hiked back into an area I discovered earlier in the season. Around 0730 we spotted a smaller buck which I promptly MISSED!! Dang!.....Well, we decided to take it slow and head back to the truck. We handn't made it more than a quarter mile when two bucks crossed the path ahead of us (I never did see the first buck but my brother did). I saw the buck in the rear as he went over a small knoll. I ran to a better vantage point and caught him about 30-40 yrds ahead of me heading for the trees. I threw my rifle up, aimed for his neck, and let lose. He dropped right in his tracks!

I do want to thank 4 very cool guys that happened upon us about the time we finished field dressing my buck. They got thier ATVs, loaded my deer, and drove us all the way back to my truck...and would not take anything for the favor! They REALLY made the end of the hunt that much more enjoyable!

Nice buck Jer, I was wondering if you were going to get a chance to get out or not. Hadn't heard from you figured possibly not. Glad you could get out and take a FINE buck. 10sign:

It's always nice to have a hunt work out like that. It makes me happy when I don't have to pack the trophy out on my back also.

I've got some extended family that lives up in Boise. They keep saying that I should come up to hunt. Maybe one day I'll have to take them up on it. It would be cool to get my first whitetail.

Again CONGRATS. =D>

Thanks guys!

Brett: Yea, things are starting to calm down a bit around here after one heck of a busy last 9 months or so. I was able to sneak out for 6 days total and had two others in my "back pocket" in case I needed them. I did miss my WA seasons though completely. No complaints though....the biggest reason was my youngest son's wrestling (7 years old). He finished his first year of wrestling with a 33-9 record and medaled in 9 of the 10 tournaments he participated in.

a_bow_nut: You should really take them up on it! I'll tell you this much though....it's gotten a bit tougher lately (I was skunked for my first time ever last season). Not sure if it's the wolves or what but I just don't see the deer out and about like in past years. In fact, we had resorted to bumping them out of their beds and HOPING for a shot opportunity. There are still PLENTY of deer out there....it's just that they seem to have gone almost completely nocturnal. Again, plenty of whitetail out there but the work to get them has increased a bit.

Congratulations! That's a great buck! I'm jealous. I hunted Idaho whitetails for the first time this year and it was a miserable failure. Not sure if I'll give it a crack again or go back to muleys.
