Utah Lake 3-11-12

Post by a_bow_nut » Mon Mar 12, 2012 1:29 am

Went down to Utah Lake today to see what had woke up from its winter nap.

In ture fashion for this lake there is almost always something that doesn't go right when I head down to fish and today didn't dissapoint. Once that I had my waders on and the float tube filled with gear I just needed one more thing my poles. Look around and realize that I had left them at the house sitting on the counter so that I wouldn't forget them. #-o

So I take everything off pile it all back into the truck and its off to Wally World to find a pole to use for the day. Get the pole and head back ang get ready to go again. Now that I've got everything that I need it's time for the second brain fart of the day and decide to leave the jacket in the truck since its such a nice day and it will just be in the way.

Launch the tube and start fishing and work my way back into an area that has treated me well in the past and pick up a deformed white bass.

Decideing that it has suffered enough I dispatched it so that it could become bait for later in the day. Caught one more white bass in the next hour so I decided to head out into the main lake and see what was going on. When I cleared the Phrag the wing hit me right in the face and thats when I remember that as the wind blows across the water it cools down quite a bit and here I am a half mile from the truck with no jacket.

Looked for some more white bass for a bit then switched over and tried for some catfish. I got lucky and picked up a channel that will just fit into the pan.

Picked up a bullhead after about another half hour of fishing and finlay got to cold to stay out any longer.

All in all it was still a good day to be out.

it kind of looks like something took a bite out of that bass and it has healed over?
sounds like you had a good day!

Yeah I'm not sure what happed to that fish but healed pretty good. It put up a good fight.

I can't wait till it warms up some more and have the fishing really turn on.

Looks like that bass got a little to close to a prop.

My guess is that fish survived a bird bite..

Channel cats that size are excellent eating. Good job.

Wow. I'm pretty surprised that the bass lived at all with a wound like that. Pretty cool.
