New spot pays off

Post by sactribe » Sun Apr 06, 2014 8:21 pm

I have had my eye on a particular hill since about 6 years ago when I clipped a buck on the highway. We both survived the incident and this year after studying some maps I discovered that the hill in question is mostly BLM. I took my kids rabbit hunting there in February and we saw 4 bucks and that is when I decided to give it a try after the bucks had some time to drop. I hit it yesterday afternoon and found 9 sheds in 4.75 miles. Only one was fresh. In photo #2 you can see two sheds. One was a big 4 point and the other was a 5 point, but not a match. Photo #5 is from a ways off. Look under the tree to the right. I returned today with my son in hopes of filling our packs but we only found 2. One was a nice fresh 4 point and the other was a very old 4 point. The weather was a bit nasty with blowing snow but it was still a great day to be out. There is still a lot of the hill I didn't cover so I am looking forward to getting back there.

Yes, nice. I am very jealous. I have a few spots that I've been dying to try out but have not found the time. Maybe this weekend. Just hope I don't find footprints and no sheds again. Congrats

I tried another new spot yesterday and found 3 browns and 3 hard whites. Some of my usual spots are not working out as well this year so I am glad to be able to add to my list of must-hit places. I found these 6 sheds in a very concentrated area within a large BLM block. I could spend a few more days in there but I am about ready to turn my attention to my elk areas.

That's awesome! I need to get out and do some shed hunting but I've been traveling like crazy the past few months! Hopefully I'll make it out the end of this month finally!
