elkkkk outtt wesssttt???

so i live in utah and am starting to think about hunting other western states mostly for archery OTC elk right now. washington seems to be the least expensive for an elk tag but i just was wondering if anyone else is currently trying other states and if i could get some pointers..

Colorado has OTC archery hunts for quite a few units. $544 for a non resident bull or either sex, and $354 for a cow tag. Not sure how that compares to Washington's fees

What is the difference in cost in getting yourself and your gear from Roosevelt to Washington vs. Colorado or Wyoming or Idaho? You could be hunting in Colorado in less than two hours.

As long as you draw a tag, or can afford a landowner permit

I'm gonna have to second the Colorado OTC idea. 2010 was my first year hunting in Colorado. I had a muzzy deer tag in an OTC elk unit and was wishing I had an elk tag! I had at least 3 different shooter bulls w/in archery range and saw elk everyday. I was about 3-4 miles into a wilderness area though. Next year if I don't draw anywhere, I'm gonna go back and get me one of 'em (optimistic, I know)!

One of my friends used to go over to the Colorado side of the Book Cliffs somewhere on an over the counter archery hunt and they would go every year. At least that was where they told me that they went. I may have been getting a bum rush story also. It couldn't hurt to check it out though if you don't mind archery hunting.

LOVE ARCHERY HUNTING.....

and depending on the area they told you i could be very close living in roosevelt...

but thanks everyone for the feedback!!! i really think i will just pay the extra money for colorado when the time comes, its close, great elk hunting and i have friends that have moved just over the state borders so i could even get together with them and hunt one day.....
