Re: How far is to far?
I've made some very long shots myself, but like what's been said, you need to be a practiced shot. There's a big difference between buying the best technology and memorizing ballistic tables and wind drift and spin of the earth and and bullet drift and applying it successfully. There's a big differe...

Re: How I sharpen Montecs
The end piece is an old cermet (ceramic metallic insert) from a milling head. They wear out on the ends and are discarded at the machine shop I work at. The sides are still sharp. I milled a flat (you could grind or file one) on a pice of 1/4" round stock to match the contour of the insert and drill...

Re: Best Fixed Blade for Elk?
So how much are you going to sell them for? There will be a market for these I hope you realize this. You may not make millions, but you may make some spending cash. A new milling insert (I use the old ones that have the two end edges worn out but the sides are good) is about $20.00 and the file ha...

Re: ATV advise
Most of them have such a short suspension travel that they tend to be tippy in rough rocky roads. An old Suzuki Samarai with a lift will be cheaper and safer. The Polaris ATVs especially the ones with the side by side seats and ROPS seem very stable and probably safer. They start at at least twice t...

Re: Unwanted help:
I like to ask how much money they would like to lose and I get to pick the game which is offhand at 300 meters at the 8 inch diamonds. Shuts them up every time because the good shooters never bother anyone. Glad you had fun at the range.

Re: Best Fixed Blade for Elk?
Dead is dead, congratulations on your kill, anything taken with a bow is a trophy, and you have meat on the table. I love my Montecs, except for when I have to sharpen them. I cant get them as sharp as I would like. I get them sharp enough to do the job, just not as sharp as I would like to get the...
