Re: CO turkey opening day. Who's with me?
I went back to the same area last Saturday. I came in from the extreme south end. Lots of deer tracks but no sign of thunder chickens. I did see lots of quail though. Since the ground was wet it made tracking real easy. I found one set of tracks that were less than a day old. I explored new areas an...

Re: CO turkey opening day. Who's with me?
Congrats man! :thumb Maybe I should still go through the hunter's orientation to get on base? It almost started snowing were I was hunting... very cold and drizzly. I'm going to try the same area next Saturday. But this time I'll spread out my search for the birds a little more if need be. I was sma...

Re: CO turkey opening day. Who's with me?
Something is not right. I went out to my area yesterday only to find just a couple of traumatized jakes. Not the huge flock that was there just one week ago. No hens and no mature toms to be found. It's like the entire flock was taken out in one week. There was no sign of recent flock movement. They...

Re: CO turkey opening day. Who's with me?
Hey JL, Found a flock of 40+ birds with at least 4 nice toms in the group. All within 40 miles of Colorado Springs.... in a place you would never think you'd find turkeys. It's public land too. I was out there last weekend and watched the flock go to roost late Sunday. I hope they are there Saturda...

I have one of these... http://www.datavideo.info/prodimages/dac200.jpg Datavideo DAC-200. Unfortunately it has been discontinued and superceded by more expensive units. You can find them on Ebay once in awhile... http://cgi.ebay.com/Datavideo-DAC-100-DV-Converter-VHS-to-DVD-converter_W0QQitemZ320345...

Re: Colorado Springs Turkey Hunting partner wanted
JL, Yea, I really think there might be some birds just south of the burn area, east of Hwy 115. I've seen them crossing many times while driving through there lately. In fact one day on the radio they said there was a big gobbler fight in the middle of the road that had traffic backed up. That whole...

Yes, you should field dress it first.

Re: Turkey Plucking ?
So I take it you got one? It's easier to wet-pluck a turkey than to dry-pluck it in the field. Dunking the bird in boiling water will soften the skin and make the chore faster. Follow these steps. 1. Put enough water in a large pot to cover at least half the bird and begin boiling. 2. Cut off the be...

Re: Colorado Springs Turkey Hunting partner wanted
Hey JL. I just found this forum. I live in Security. I've been hunting south / south east of Westcliffe the last two weekends. I've seen lots of birds on private land but nothing on National Forest and BLM land. I hunted below the snow line near Bishop's Castle on opening day. Nothing to show for it...
