I think you are on the right track, hunting west of Sylvan Lake. There are quite a few elk in the area between Sylvan Lake and LEDE Res.. I also shoot Canon. If you choose the Canon model you are looking at (T5), I'd just buy the camera body and for $300, get the Canon 10-18 lens. This would be a pretty good set up for landscapes. Either camera would work well, it's all in the lenses. Just my thoughts.
