Re: For the new members....PLEASE READ

Bear2; I have lived southern Michigan for 20 years with possibilies to hunt upland game birds + turkeys. Also deer and black bear are on the agenda. After it's turkey time I spend time fly fishing for Salmon, Steelhead in season and for wild Trout when the runs are over. All less than an hour of my ...

Elk caliber - 30.06/338WM?

Question: For a Utah Elk hunt this fall, which would be better; Remy 700 in 30.06 shooting 165 gr Nosler Partitions (PTs) at almost 2900 fps, OR Remy 700 in 338 Win Mag shooting 200 gr Nosler ABs or 210/225 gr Nosler PTs. Both partition loads are MOA. Have not tried the ABs yet. All help appreciated...

Re: alaska

I am with both of you 79Ford & ABert; I have been to Alaska, on a 15 day cruise and land tour package like ABert commented (been there), but like 79Ford I also am wishing for a spring bear hunt. As long as I am just wishing and do not have to pay, might as well be for a brown bear hunt on Kodiak Isl...

Re: a question for reloaders

quebechunter: if your first shot was from a clean cold barrel, it is not uncommon to have your first shot apart from subsequent shots. two choices either final zero for a clean cold barrel, or fire a shot first before hunting, (even before you depart) then your shots should group. it is also common ...

Re: Favorite Rifle?

Thanks for the reply re the 243 being enough for mule deer.
My favorite rifle however is a Remy 700 Classic in 30-06 with a Leup 3.5 x 10 Vari XIII.
My uncle (Sam) made me a fan of the 30-06, in the M-1 Garand.

Re: a question for reloaders

Some good info on this tread for you. Seams like you are on the right track. Continue with you seating depth changes. Also strongly agree with signs of excessive pressure; flattening of the primer and case head expansion. You are observing primer issues and asked for advice at the range, great. Re c...

Re: a question for reloaders

1) Where did you get your cases for the 300 Ultra? 2) Are they new? If so did you check their length etc? 3) How did you prep them? You probably should have used a deburring tool on the inside and outside of the case mouth. 4) Your one grain increments in powder charges is OK, but I would not have r...

Re: Looking for a Reliable Quebec Outfitter

Can personally recommend Club Chambeaux. Flew from Montreal to Shefferville (700 miles North) via turboprop 48 seater, then 245 miles NW via Otter float plane to camp. We were ahead of the migration (first week of September), and had to hunt long and hard, but all tagged two good bulls each, as did ...

Re: Velvet Removal Help

Up in Quebec, after we harvested our caribou, the giudes left our antlers in the lake to keep them wet. The day before we left they removed them and slit the velvet lengthwise with a knife. Then we used spoons going underneath the velvet and unwrapping so to speek around the circumference, the entir...
