i am new to the area, I am active duty, and hunting is my passion. I hate learning a new area but have to. :( any suggestions on where would be good???? alot of the area i have been scouting is private, :( bummer i just have no idea where to go. please help

What city is near to where you want to hunt?. I hunt in eastern Washington too.

Hey Diesel,
There is a ton of and I mean a ton of great public land to hunt in Eastern Washington. I take it that you are now stationed at Fairchild. I grew up in SE Washington and was stationed at Fairchild From 2001-2004. Contact the BLM office, they have great maps that will show you all the public land by county. There are some great spots west of Spokane near Ford and Hunters. I am supposed to be there right now, but got hooked for a 120 to Incirlik. You can go up north near Post Falls, or south to the Blues. Look up a guy named Mark Dorn on the global and he might could point you in the right direction. Tell him you got his name from Ty Simpson. Also, I don't know if Rick is still working out at the skeet range, but he is a wealth of knowledge as well. PM me for any other questions and I will give you my email as well.

hey tsimp121 i ended up going out towards whitman county and got permission from a few farmers to hunt 10000 acres. i got a 3 pt white tail!!! 2nd day of season or 8 pt if thats what ya wanna call it 400yds runnin away go him in the shoulder:) and collapsed his lungs dies 50 yds over hill:) now i just need a place to elk hunt.....HMMMMMM????? :P

Good to hear that you found some land to Hunt. As far as counting points, I have found that with a whitetail you would call a deer with eight points an eight point, and with Mule Deer it could be a 4X4 or 5X3. That is what I have found anyways. There are a couple of good Elk herds in the state. Are you going to hunt eastern or western washington?

diesel112 congrats on your kill. I'm active duty also and I know it can be extremely difficult moving to a new place and finding good hunting land. Congrats on future hunts!

Russ was very patient, passing up on a number of good bucks, before he shot this one. You can't shoot a really really god buck if you shoot average ones. From my experience this is a really good buck for Washington. There are some bigger ones down around the Snake River breaks around Khalotus, but most of that land is hemmed up by outfitters. You can go down to the Blue Mountains and get a good buck also.
We were stationed together at Fairchild outside of Spokane. He is in Ramstein Germany now and still flies back every year to hunt. I got hooked for a deployment and couldn't go this year. We had no idea what we were doing when we first started out, but we quickly found out that if you get off the beaten path opportunity awaits. We hunt the high country North of Spokane now and don't let anyone tell you that there isn't good deer hunting in Washington. There is great hunting, you just have to work for it.
