First for me
I've killed a bunch of whitetail, but never one with a mane. This buck had a big dark swirl that turned into a full fledged mane that ran for a foot down the back of his neck. He came into a doe bleat call in the thick timber and I killed him at 40 yards with my 25-06. I took a couple buddies from Utah this year and they both killed a couple nice bucks. More to come.........

Re: First for me
Was it long? Looks like hybrid, that colored body and coat look like Mule Deer from that angle.

Re: First for me
It was pretty long, I'd say that the black mane hairs were at least 3 times longer than the normal hair. Pretty sure he was all whitetail but in the area we hunt there are mule deer. The tail and antler conformation were definitely all white tail. Body size was average for a whitetail and small for a mature mule deer. I've seen this type of hair pattern on a few deer from this area but it has always been on the brisket. Too bad he wasn't bigger, that cape would have made for a cool mount. Here's another pic that shows his tail.------SS
