7mm Rem Mag new favorite load

Post by wingmaster36 » Sun Nov 08, 2009 5:29 pm

I have finished working up my new lead free load for my Ruger 77. I used Federal Premium cases, CCI 250 primer, Barnes 150 TTSX, 68.0 grains IMR 7828ssc, and it is neck sized. I loaded to 3.295 oal because of magazine length though my rifle throat allows 3.385 to touch the lands, so I've got plenty of jump for the copper bullet. I used the Lee factory crimp die to get a bite on the bullet for rough field use. I haven't chrono'd it yet, but it ought to be scootin' along pretty well. This is a pretty warm load and over max in some resources, but I went all the way to 69.0 with no problems other than the group opened up. The 68.0 grain load put 4 in the same hole @ 100 yds which ain't bad for a walnut stocked Ruger MKII with the factory trigger. I'm pleased with this combo at this point and hope to smoke a lot of big game with it in the years to come.

Congrats, working up a new load and finally getting it is a great feeling. This load should be a friend for life as the barnes bullet going 3140 (my guess on your velocity) will kill anything it hits in the vitals.-----shooter

I hope it busts 3100 fps, but if not I can live with a real accurate 3050 fps. I will not get a chance to chrony for a while because our deer season opens Saturday and duck in a few more weeks. The season of harvest is here.

I killed my biggest whitetail buck this Saturday with this load. I will post pic's later. Perfect performance from the ttsx bullet @ 125 yds.

Went to the range with my load today and tried it out at 200 yds. I fired 3 rounds of 3 shot groups in the swirling wind. All three groups were sub moa. I'm done other than chronographing it. It ought to be pretty quick me thinks. I am pleased!

and the chrongraph says? 3206, 3207, 3193. Wow!!!!! 3202 avg velocity and only 14fps spread. I also forgot to mention a .300 3 shot group size. :thumb
