First elk set of the year

Post by sactribe » Tue Apr 24, 2012 6:07 pm

I went back to a spot I hunted last fall and found a matched 5X6 set within 10 minutes of my start. This set is from last year. I glassed these from a hill looking down into the timber. The other side was lying 10 feet away, half buried. I found 6 other elk horns but they were old and small, broken or chewed. One was a really weird looking thing. Besides the set, the best horn of the day was a smaller white 5 point. It was cool because I spotted it from about 300 yards away as I glassed from the top of a ridge. To complete my back-breaking day I found a large muley dead head. The ATL photo looks like a crab.
