Re: CO GMU 51 Elk
ok, today was the last day for that elk tag...and all I got was fresh tracks ( :>/ ), crunchy snow, cold wind, and a promising elk hunting future in 51! The tracks we saw were right on the road, looked like two elk, joined by a couple more a 1/8 mile ahead. Next year we'll pray for no snow, and a so...

Re: New "Shooting Shop" in Castle Rock
Not yet, close though. Seems like I never have that 'pefect' shot! Dad and I met with a guy on Rampart the other day and he was talking all about the elk, deer, turkey, and bear that he has hunted up there. According to him, there aren't very many mulies up there now, but there are a ton of elk. I s...

New "Shooting Shop" in Castle Rock
Anybody heard about this new place? We could use a decent archery shop nearby!

I hope it does well against the one sporting-goods store that's already in Castle Rock

Re: How to Hunt on a Slim Budget
So, what if you don't even have the normal tools? I seriously don't own a cleaning kit...or a decent knife... #-o The knife is coming soon :thumb How important is your camo? I have to wear orange for deer and elk anyway, as far as I understand. What are some alternatives to the normal, "Duh, you nee...

Re: Tanning
Thanks guys! I did ask on that forum but haven't gotten an answer yet. Considering that I've never tried to tan or even skin anything but a couple squirrels I might just use the kit from Cabela's.

How to Hunt on a Slim Budget
I cannot be the only one who has a very small budget this year. But it seems like you need to spend at least $500 whenever you go to the store. Nothing's is cheap anymore :>/ So, how do you cut costs? Like do I really need all the new-fangled gun cleaning gear, or did Grandpa have it right when he b...

Tanning
I've got this crazy notion in my head that I want to tan my deer and elk hides. :-k I'm sure that I want to do it myself. I've got a book about it and I've puttered around the internet so I have a general picture in my head. One of the common chemicals is alum. Only problem is that there's a little ...

Re: Scouting with Google
CO GMU 51 for turkey, deer and elk. So far I've heard that Jackson Creek and Rampart Range might be worth while, kinda around that weird Shamballah Ashrama place I'm guessing. I know that some of the pictures are way outdated cause the things that have changed on our property since they were taken. ...

Scouting with Google
Unfortunately I'm not gonna have much time scouting for elk or mule deer this year but what can be done using the topos in google maps and the pictures in google earth? I have like a gazillion miles of ground that I could scout but how do I choose which little parcel?
