I've got a Rem 700, my dad a 721 and my brother a 710. All three are in .270 and they all do the job. The only difference I've seen in the three is my dad's. He's got the short barrel, I believe around 20-22". It does not shoot the Hornady Magnum rounds very accurately. Any other round in it shoots fine. All will give you sub 1" groups at 100 yards. These guns have put down elk out past 300 yards, providing you put the bullet where it needs to go. Same goes for deer. Not to heavy to carry all day and we have never had any malfuntions, whether in the field or at the range. Good choice in my opinion.
It ain't the size of the gun but the placement of the bullet.
